3. Environmental Leadership Program’s Southeast Regional Network Fellowship Program

The Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) is a national organization
that inspires visionary, action-oriented and diverse leadership to work
for a just and sustainable future. Each year, ELP provides training,
project support, and networking opportunities to emerging environmental
leaders through national and regional fellowship programs.

Through hands on training, community building activities and
participatory group discussions, Fellows hone the practical skills of
public leadership, develop a strong peer network, and explore ways to
achieve lifelong personal and professional goals. The program is a
unique opportunity for talented individuals, living or working in the
Southeast (including Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas, northern Florida
and central and eastern Tennessee), to have a substantial impact on
environmental and social progress through collaboration with other
emerging leaders in the region.

ELP seeks emerging leaders with approximately 3- 10 years of experience
with environmental and/or social change work. ELP defines
“environmental” broadly to include agriculture, conservation, energy,
public health, transportation policy and planning, economic development
and broad- based community organizing. ELP Regional Fellows come from
nonprofits, business, government, tribal government, and higher
education, and include activists, artists, writers, lawyers,
entrepreneurs, policy makers, and scientists, among others.

The regional fellowship program is an incredible opportunity for
emerging leaders in the field to receive top- notch professional
development training free of charge, due to the generosity of ELP
donors. Fellows participate in three retreats throughout the year which
focus on leadership, diversity, strategic communications, coalition
building and movement building/visioning. Fellows have the opportunity
to participate in issue forums which will improve their ability to speak
effectively in public and gain additional exposure for their work.

Applicants for the 2009 ELP Training Series must commit to participating
in three retreats held in the Southeast, in their entirety: March 12- 15;
June 11- 15; and November 13- 15. Locations to be determined. It only
takes a minute to begin the application process! Please note, all
applications must by complete on or before November 6, 2008.
