Learning for Life
February 4, 2008 |
Learning for Life, a community non-profit Career and Character Education program, is in immediate need of volunteers to present Character Education lessons at Derenne Middle School, West Chatham Middle School and Gadsden Elementary School.
DERENNE MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Graduation Coach at Derenne Middle School is ready to start two new Learning for Life Character Education groups, one for 7th graders and one for 8th graders. We need two volunteers who can commit to presenting a total of six Character Education lessons between now and the end of the school year. A teacher or counselor will be in the room to help out at each session. Each group would consist of 10-15 students who are considered ‘at risk’ of dropping out due to various challenges.
Here are the schedule details:
Dates: The schedule will consist of six 45-minute sessions, one per week during the following weeks: Feb. 20 & 27, March 12 & 26, May 14 & 28 (Make up weeks: 3/19 or 5/7) With pre-approval, presenters can select the day of the week that is best for them.
Times:
7th graders - 9:00-9:45 a.m.
8:th graders - 8:00-8:45 a.m.
Materials: Lesson plans will be provided to cover relevant topics such as Respect, Building Relationships and Self-Discipline
WEST CHATHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL
We currently need one volunteer to provide six Character Education lessons at West Chatham Middle School. The 6th and 7th graders have been receiving Learning for Life since last fall and we are now ready to add an 8th grade group.
GADSDEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
We currently have active Learning for Life volunteer programs for all 2nd and 4th grade classrooms at Gadsden and would like to add the 5th grade this spring for six sessions. As with the middle school programs, lesson plans are provided and a teacher will be in the classroom with you to assist with classroom management.
Please call or email Barbara Foley at Learning for Life for details if you are considering volunteering for Derenne Middle School, West Chatham Middle School or Gadsden Elementary School. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and much needed right now!
