Computer Competency Test Update
December 3, 2007 |
Attention: COE Interns Graduating this Month
This message is for anyone who plans to graduate in December and did not take the AssessOnline Computer Competency test offered by the state of Georgia for certification purposes. This test officially ended on Sept. 30th because the state decided not to renew their contract with that testing agency. We were informed that there would be a new test available from GACE by Nov. 15th, which would take the place of AssessOnline and that the new test would cost $35 to take it.
Since that initial announcement, very little has been known about the new GACE test, until recently.
Here is what we currently know:
Candidates seeking licensure will have to take the test, if they have not taken EDUC 3100 or ECUC 6100.
In order to prepare for the test, here is a link for assistance:
http://www.gace.nesinc.com/GA_PG_178_opener.asp Registration for the test will occur the day you schedule to take and you’ll do it on the computer with a credit card. Your card will be charge $35.
Since it’s a brand new test, they haven’t determined a passing score yet for the test. That won’t be determined until Feb. 28th.
You may take the test before Feb. 28th, but they won’t be able to tell you prior to that date whether or not you passed.
There is not a deadline of Nov. 30th for you to register for this test, as previously stated, nor is there a testing date of January 12. That was for the REGULAR GACE test, not the GACE Computer Competency Test.
This will not impact your ability to graduate from AASU. This is a certification issue, not a graduation issue. However, we will do our best to help any students who find themselves in a position that they need this test in order to be hired for a job.
We will be discussing this test at the Internship Final Seminar on Dec. 7th or 10th, so hopefully all your questions will be answered at that meeting. Until then, we recommend that you begin to prepare for this test, which we hope to begin to administer for you here at AASU in mid-December. We hope to have more details for you at the meeting this Friday, in terms of when the test will be administered.
